Lutheran High School Cross-country and Track & Field, under the leadership of Coach Matt Beisel, have experienced many years of growth and success at both the Conference and State levels. The paragraphs and pictures below are a brief introduction, but for those interested in learning a great deal more about XC/Track at Lu-Hi, please visit the following website - our official home for running and track online! www.lhsrunning.org
Lutheran High School Cross-country
Lutheran High School has experienced tremendous success at the state level over the past six years in cross-country. In 2002, the boys' team won state (see 1st picture on the left, below). This was followed in 2003 by a dual championship, where both the boys and the girls swept the state titles (see 2nd pictures from the left, below). In 2004, we experienced a down year with a 3rd place finish for the girls and a 5th place finish for the boys. 2005 and 2006 were rebuilding years, and we were bumped from Class 2A to Class 4A (without our school size changing!) due to the private/parochial school multiplier that took effect. However, in 2006 our boys and girls both placed 7th overall at the 4A State Championships, and things are looking great for fall 2007. Almost everyone from last year is returning, and we have some outstanding 9th graders moving up from the Christ Lutheran School xc/track program who will immediately help us.

Lutheran High School Track & Field
Over the past six years God has granted Lutheran High track & field athletes repeated success and improvement. At the Conference level, our girls have been Conference Champs once, Conference Runners-up four times, and finished 3rd place once. Our boys have been Conference Runners-up three times, have finished 3rd twice, and 7th place once. Each year we send large numbers of athletes to the State Outdoor Championships - 8 in 2003, 15 in 2004, 13 in 2005, and 15 in 2006. Due to the jump from Class 2A to 4A this year, we only managed to get 2 girls qualified and no boys, but this has simply inspired us to work harder to achieve our desired level of success at the 4A level. Our girls have shown great success at the state level, finishing 3rd out of 36 teams in 2004 and 4th out of 46 teams in 2005. Our boys have improved greatly, jumping from a 22nd-place finish in 2005 to a 12th-place finish in 2006 (out of 53 teams). We have produced two individual state champions in two years: Jordan Twedt (senior '05) won the high jump in 2005 and Rachel Goodwin (senior '09) won the long jump in 2006. Both of these ladies competed at the Meet of Champs at Hot Springs High School. Goodwin competed in the Arkansas State Heptathlon in 2007, finishing 7th in the state. She was the top 10th grader in the entire field. We have a huge class of talented 9th graders moving up from Christ Lutheran School in 2007-08, many of whom have been doing track for years. They will add to the impact of our upperclassmen.
Rachel Goodwin (senior '09), State Champion in the Long Jump and Jordan Twedt (senior '05), State Champion in the High Jump
