2. Do you have to be a Christian to attend?
No. LHS is open to all applicants. However, LHS is a school that is “Christ-centered” in all we do.
3. Why are you called “Lutheran High School” - do you have to be a Lutheran to attend?
No. LHS is a school that falls under the umbrella of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod but is open to all applicants. Being a member of a church within the Lutheran High School Association does provide a tuition break.
4. Is Lutheran High School accredited?
LHS is accredited by NLSA (National Lutheran Schools Accreditation) and ANSAA (Arkansas Non-Public School Accreditation Association).
5. How much does it cost to attend LHS?
Tuition is $5600 annually. Tuition is $5300 annually for members of the association churches.
6. Does LHS offer financial aid?
Yes. To comply with Arkansas Activities Association rules, all aid must be need-based. To establish need, parents may go to the following website and apply www.ffna1.com
7. What is your average ACT score?
The average ACT score for LHS students for the last three years has been 24. The Arkansas state average for those three years is 21.
8. Where do LHS graduates go to college?
Ninety-eight percent of all LHS grads move on to some form of college. Graduates attend Arkansas colleges and universities and other colleges and universities across the nation.
9. Are the teachers certified?
Yes. All of the teachers at LHS have a Bachelor’s degree and are required to get an Arkansas teacher’s license. In fact, many of the teachers have Master’s degrees in their field of study.
10. How big are the classes?
LHS has a 10:1 teacher-student ratio which allows for special attention for students.
11. At what level do your athletics compete?
LHS is a member of the Arkansas Activities Association and competes at the state 2A level for most sports. The school offers football, volleyball, cross country, swimming, basketball, golf, tennis, baseball, soccer, and track.
12. What about your drama and music programs?
The drama department produces fall and spring productions. The music department offers a band, choir, and praise band. A strings class will begin in the fall of 2009.
13. Do you have a dress code?
Yes. The dress code is “casual” and is described in the student handbook which can be downloaded from this website. Students are not required to wear uniforms.
14. Do you offer Advanced Placement courses or courses for college credit?
Yes. LHS has seven Advanced Placement courses that have been reviewed and certified by the College Board. Students have a more than fifty percent rate of passage on the exam. Courses are offered in AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, AP Language and Composition, AP Literature and Composition, AP U.S. History, and AP World History.
15. Do you offer modifications for students with learning differences?
Yes. LHS has a Modified Academic Program which offers classroom modifications for students with tested learning differences. Students may even take MAP math or English classes with lots of individual attention.
16. Do you have a hot lunch program?
Yes. Students order daily from an ala carte menu including pizza, salads, and various sandwiches. On Wednesday students may order from Chik-fil-a.
17. Is your campus “open?” Are students allowed to come and go as they please?
No. LHS is a closed campus. Students are required to be on campus at all times during school hours. Students with study hall during first or last period may qualify for late arrival or early dismissal with a GPA of 2.0.
18. How safe is the school environment?
Very safe. Our building has security cameras on the only entrance open during the school day. We are committed to providing an educational environment that is safe.
19. How is the Christian Faith woven into daily life at LHS?
Theology classes are part of the daily curriculum for all students. Classes are based on Biblical teachings. When questions arise in class, the various doctrinal distinctions and religious views are discussed. All students attend thirty-minute chapel services three times a week which are led by LHS teachers, students, and a variety of local pastors. On Fridays the worship is led by the student Praise Band.
20. How accessible is the LHS teaching staff to students and parents?
The accessibility of the faculty is one of the best things about LHS. Students are able to meet with teachers before school each day for thirty minutes and thirty minutes after school for extra help. Parents are encouraged to contact teachers through phone or email. Both students and parents can use Edline to view assignments and grades online.
21. What does a typical day at LHS look like for a student?
LHS’s daily class schedule follows an eight-period day. Each class meets each day so students can have frequent contact with teachers.
